Yeah so for the last two months I spent a great deal of time developing a conceptual transparent business plan for my Marketing & Design Company. In addition I am also developing a few other print materials, web materials, and a few other options to help promote my company.
As a rule of thumb I do not want to have any overhead if possible. Granted there will be overhead but I would like to keep it to a minimum. With this concept in head I had decided that any and all aspects of the business would be outsourced with the exceptions of the intellectual capital and control of the process chain which I will retain. Other functions like mass production will be left to outsource to mass suppliers. I have secured one primary supplier for print materials and I am looking for a second. I also have 2 professional web developers that I will be using for coding and functionality of my web creations.
Why is this good? Well for one main reason it will allow me to leverage competitive bidding between three companies and still receive good quality products at cost. The second reason is obvious because it cuts out my variable overhead. I also have a decal and textile supplier secured. He will primarily be used for client promotions and things like that. Now all that is left is for me to secure the software to start doing the designs I am currently right now using Adobe Illustrator CS3. I am planning on purchasing the Adobe Creative Suite 4 Master Collection which is a $2,500 investment. In addition I will be purchasing a brand new laptop and an external hard drive to store designs and creations. I am also working on a company name and logo, not sure yet what it is going to look like. I have been so busy focusing on everything else, but I will figure one out soon.
All I have left now is to actually market the company. As of right now I want to test launch this company to only Michigan with hopes of eventually spreading out nationally in the future via the internet. If anyone has any suggestions, questions or comments I would like to hear them! I really need to find out some things about accounting, entrepeneurship and legal issues with starting a business.
